Property owners should ensure that their property is safe in every way for visitors. That includes providing sufficient lighting, ceilings, walls, and everything else. They should address hazards promptly to avoid danger to visitors. Sometimes and oftentimes, placing a sign that there is a danger, is not even enough. Some dangerous conditions that lead to slip/trip and falls are:
- uneven sidewalk
- tree roots growing underneath a sidewalk and lifting it up
- a man-made uneven ramp
- snow and ice
- poor removal of snow and ice
- liquid left on the floor for too long
- milk spilled in a grocery store

THE NUMBER ONE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO DO AFTER YOU FALL IS TO MAKE SURE YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU FELL ON. Take a photo of it!
Note, the photo does not have to be taken the same day, but it should show exactly what the area looked like at the time of your fall.
Also, other things it is important to do after a fall are:
- Fill out an incident report with the store or where you fell (if you can)
- Identify any witnesses to your fall
- Speak to a manager or worker who works at or near where you fell
- Seek medical attention from the scene of where you fell
